Activision Blizzard also announced today that World of Warcraft WoTLK Gold has now sold more than 20 million copies. The figure includes sales of World of Warcraft itself and the expansion Reaper of Souls, which was the most popular PC game of the quarter in terms of dollars in the two regions of North America and Europe, Activision Blizzard said. World of Warcraft originally launched as a PC exclusive, but it's now available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will be released later this month as The Ultimate Evil Edition.

Overall, Activision Blizzard posted better-than-expected profits for the third quarter. Revenue was $658 million in comparison to $608 million last year. Net income was, however was $45 million. This is only half the $90 million the company posted last year during the same quarter. On the bright side, Activision Blizzard reported that a record-setting 73 percent revenues of the company were derived through digital transactions.

"Today, we have more opportunities to produce great content with new platforms and business models. We're expanding into new regions and we are taking advantage of all of these opportunities for growth with the same passion for excellence that we've demonstrated over the past two decades." Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement. "As the world's largest in terms of revenue and profitability, an independent tainment company, we're committed on developing the most engaging enjoyable games for our dedicated audiences and providing higher returns for WOW WoTLK Classic Gold investors."
