While passing ridge of Kathmandu Valley, you catch a glimpse of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal magnificent view and terraces and green hills. There are some options to get in Arughat Bazaar; drive through the Dhadingbesi or Gorkha Bazaar or through the Benighat Siurintar. The road is tricky because of the grubby road after Dhadingbesi. The Arughat Bazaar divides in two parts by Budhigandaki River, Gorkga and Dhading. Arughat Bazaar is large, clean and prosperous with hotels and shops selling cloth, food and hardware. Again drive by local Jeep to the Sotikhola through the Gurung and Magar villages, past fields and cascading waterfalls, till we reach Soti Khola. Stay in Tea house for overnight.
As road has constructed farther than Sotikhola, to escape from the dusty road and un-natural trail, we are taking alternative trail to the Kashigaun via Manabu Village and Yarsa. The trail goes through the village s and cultivated land traces after cross suspension bridge at Sotikhola. Due to recently developed Manaslu alternative trail, you cannot expect much more comfort accommodation and verity of meals in this route. This is kind of home stay trip, you need to staying at local house and having meals with local. You have new experience about Nepalese real life hood. You may participate with farmer for the farming activities as well. Today after pass Manabu village you will have lunch at Yarsa village. Walk another an hour to two hours to the Kashigaun for overnight stay.
Today, after having breakfast at tea house, we start to trek to the Rumchet via Karauja. This trekking route offers amazing panoramic views of Mt. Ganesh, Sringi and Manaslu Himalaya ranges. Ghale Gurung is main ethnic group inhabited of this area, who settlement dating back to centuries. We will have lunch at Karauja and walk to the Rumchet for the day destination. We are not suggesting for larger group than four people for this trail due to limitation of accommodation this day. Stay overnight at Home stay or Tea house.
The trail involves some steep descents to the Doban. The trail gives the glimpses of diversity of flora & fauna, and beautiful waterfall. The alternative trail catch Manaslu Circuit main trail at Tatopani (Hot spring). While taking lunch at Tatopani, you havechangce to enjoy Natural hot Spring. Then walk to Dobhan for day destination. Dobhan means confluence of the stream, where Shiar Khola comes from the east, and the Sarpu khola meet from the west. We set our camp here or stay overnight at tea house.
The trail goes up through Philim and heads up over a ridge that leads to Ganesh Himal Base camp and Chumling (Lower Tsum). We camp for the night at Chumling. Each individual can enjoy with songs of Bird and roaring sound of river on the trail. There are several good campsites at Chumling or we can stay overnight at local house.
After breakfast, we trek to Chhekampar. Upper Tsum valley (part of the inner Himalaya) which opens up from Chhekampar/Chhekamparo. This village is situated on flat land and made up of two settlements Chhekam and Paro. From the valley, we have view of Ganesh Himal range in front to the south where it provides spectacular views of the Baudha and Himal Chuli peaks to the southwest. Some households in this village practice polyandry. We stay overnight here.
On the way we pass the Piren Phu cave. Piren Phu (pigeon cave) is one of the most sacred caves in the Tsum valley. It is located at the foot of a rugged cliff near the village of Burji. Milarepa, the famous Tibetan saint, was believed to have meditated here. There are two separate monasteries attached to the rocky cave. Richly painted Buddhist murals, excellent artistic scripts carved on stones, long prayer flags and significant Buddhists paper scripts make this cave one of the most important socio-cultural asset in the valley. Beautiful views can be had at the Shiar Khola, Rachen Gumba, the mountains and settlements amidst vast agricultural land. This is the last village heading north of the upper Tsum Valley. Stay overnight.
After breakfast, the trail gradually ascends to Mu Gumba (1895 AD), the largest monastery in the region and farthest point in the Tsum valley. The monastery houses religious books, including Kangyur, a life sized statue of Avalokiteshwara, and images of Guru Padmasambhava and Tara. Chhosyang Tal is about two to three hours uphill walk. Then we visit Dephyudonma Gumba, one of the oldest monasteries in the Tsum Valley situated in the rugged mountains, a 2 hour walk from the village of Chhule and Nile. The history of this monastery is directly associated with the dawn of Buddhism in the valley. The monastery is run by Lama Serap of Nile Ladrang from the Kangin sect. There are a few campsites and drinking water facilities.
We take the trail to Rachen Gumba nunnery. It is situated in the Shiar Khola Valley in the foothills of the mountains bordering Nepal and Tibet. Rachen Gumba was established in the year 1905 AD and is one of the largest nunneries in the Tsum valley. It is belonging to the Ngak-pa sect. The nunnery houses one thousand clay, mud statues of Avalokiteshwara, a brightly colored, carved throne and pillar, and a large prayer wheel. The interior is richly painted with murals about Buddhism and its history. We stay overnight at camp or local house.
Today, we precede towards Dumje, a small and scattered settlement with some houses and adjoining cattle sheds. Dumje is a wide and flat land, good for cultivation of barely and potato. Here, patches of purple hued amaranth interspersed with fields of brown barley, dozens of yaks grazing in grassy meadows, rustic stone houses hugging the trail, long stretches of hand-carved mani stones and stacked mani walls, ancient villages dotting the landscape, rock chortens perched high on ridges, snow-capped Himalayan peaks scratching the deep blue sky, high remote mountain passes threading into Tibet, maroon-robed Buddhist monks and nuns fingering prayer beads, and hard-working kind-hearted villagers warmly welcome you into this scenic and soaring valley where Tibetan culture is still being celebrated today.
After breakfast, we are heading to Lokpa and cross Ripchet. We pass one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Lower Tsum Valley, Samba Tingding Chhupyang. This is the village which lies along the trial from Gumpa Laundang to Lokpa. The houses are completely built from stone and roofs are pine wood. The houses are arranged in linear pattern along the trial. There are a remarkable numbers of Mani walls, Chortens and gateway chortens. We make camp in Lokpa for overnight stay.
The trek leads us on a high and beautiful trail through a narrow dramatic gorge section with towering walls, past a thundering waterfall just above us and cross the suspension bridge, where we ascend gradually along a wide hillside. After trekking through dense forest the small village of Deng, lower Nubri region called Kutang, where the people are ethnically pure Tibetans. We have views of Lumbo Himal as well as Lapuchen and Dwijen Himals. We camp nearby village, and get fresh greens from the land. It starts to feel like a piece of old Tibet at last.
The trek today is a similar length to yesterdays. The trail goes through the valley with across the bridge switchback steeply up to the small, poor village of Lana. After more climbing through lovely woods of pine we reach Bihi Phedi and start to see mani stones, sign of the tiny Tibetan footholds mark in the high Himalayan places. We ahead across the large Buri Gandaki, as we walk through the gorge, all the time enjoying spectacular views. Eventually we reach Ghap, where we set up camp in another wonderful village.
Today is a wonderful trekking day through dense forest crossing Budhi Gandaki wooden bridge, ascent gently up to Tibetan-run lodge Namrung, views of mountains? Then the trail goes to extensive pastures land to the ancient Lihi village and flowing down the Lidanda Glaciers we reach the picturesque Tibetan village of Sho at 3000m. On the way to Lho, the spectacular views of Ngadi Chuli and Manaslu itself makes for quite an impressive afternoon. We set up camp in Lho, a sprawling village decorated with many prayer flags, in the yard of a small lodge and monastery. The sunset and sunrise from the campsite are wonderful.
After breakfast the trail leads us from the new monastery and then ascends to the idyllic Tibetan settlement of Shayla with amazing mountain panoramas. Then we trek through the alpine trail which leads us through fields to the 500 years old settlement Sama Gaon, or Ro, with unique architecture wooden two monasteries. Dzongka Dzong (fortress) is at the border of Tibet, a few days walk from Sama Gaon. Take the afternoon to hike up to the old Gomba settlement above town, and to wander the streets of the fascinating Sama Gaon village.
We have a rest day in Sama Gaon to explore the village and monasteries - a little piece of old Tibet. This is also an extra day in case anyone is having trouble acclimating. A great excursion is to hike towards Manalsu Base Camp where we'll have stunning views of the lake, glacier and valley. Another option is to hike up to Pung Gyen Gompa, at 3870 meters and explore around this unique natural beauty.
After having breakfast, the trail leads us breathtaking mountains scenery and blue sheep territory, grazing nearby on the barren hill-sides. Perhaps, this will be one of the best trekking days on whole trip, regarding the view and walking. After 3 to 4 hours walking you will get in Samdo, where more than four teahouse for your accommodation. Still Samdo is best for view and cultural activities. If you have still energy then you may hike up to the view point about 1 ½ to 2 hours. This is best for the acclimatization as well.
The trail leads us to the old trade route towards Tibet, cross a bridge, and climb through the trade markets of Larkya bazaar. After about three hours of climbing past glaciers, with increasingly overwhelming panoramas, we come to the campsite at Dharamsala, the high camp for the Larkya La pass, where we have lunch surrounded breathtaking mountains scenery and blue sheep territory, grazing nearby on the barren hill-sides. You'll really feel the altitude and the cold here, so enjoy a more leisurely afternoon and keep warm. We'll have an early dinner in preparation for our pass crossing tomorrow...
After a very early morning breakfast, the trail goes to North side of the Larkya Glaciers where we have views of Cho Danda and then of Larkya Peak. Then walking about four hours we will get on the top of the Larkya La (5,160m), view of wonderful panoramic mountains; Himlung Himal (7126meter), Cheo Himal (6820meters), Gyagi Kung, Kang Kuru (6981meters) and the Annapurna II (7937meters) equally stunning from both sides. The descent is steep, through moraines, towards Bhimtang. After praying and yelling 'Ki ki so so lha gyalo' (may the Gods be victorious), get ready drop onto a slippery trail following the glacial moraine finally to the Bimtang. Here at the 'Three Sisters Hotel’ the evening clouds gather and turn pink behind the surrounding peaks. It's all worthwhile now.
It will best take rest at Bhimtang after last day big walking, or you may explore around the Bhimtang and Glacier Lake. Bhitang itself best place for the mountain scenery and good tea house with delicious food.
It's an easy trekking day following the Dudh Khola through bamboo forests about 1½ to 2 hours walk down, we see ahead marks of ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) board at Dharapani. Now we are in Annapurna Circuit Trekking main trail, an atmospheric Tibetan village with prayer flags fluttering at the Gomba in Thongje. From Dhrapani, the road has been building; you may drive from here to Besisahar by jeep or bus if you are tried after many days walk. It will be bumpy drive to Besisahar, that’s why we would suggest you walk until Besisahar through the classical trekking trail avoiding the road. Trekking south on the main Annapurna Circuit trail, and following down the Marsyangdi River crossing bridge twice to reach the small village of Karte. And continue decent along the cliff rocky trail before crossing the Marsyangdi River. Before us, we see the wide plain and waterfall at scenic Tal (lake), the last village of the Lower Manang region. Continue down through the lush forest and wild Mariana to another suspension bridge nearby Chamje with a beautiful waterfall. We’ll stay overnight in the simple facilitate hotel in Chamje.

We did the 21 day Manaslu -Tsum Valley trip with Nepal Mother House at the end of Oktober. Very friendly and reliable agency in Kathmandu. Owner Karna Rana gave us very helpful advise and kindly answered all our questions. Special thanks to our guide Jayram and porter Umesh, who did a great job! Very good service!
I highly recommend Nepal Mother House for delivering on both price and quality for trekking. The owner, Karna Rana, worked with me to design a custom 21 day trek around two mountain ranges Manaslu and Annapurna. The experience of trekking with guide Suman Thapa and porter Biraj Rana was wonderful! Suman was very knowledgeable about the region. We're fairly strong trekkers who live at high altitude, and Suman let us explore way beyond the normal trekking areas on side hikes. He also arranged a jeep and taxi for us to avoid hiking on some dusty road sections around Annapurna, allowing us even more time for side hikes and cultural exploration.
We really loved the Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley trek with Karna’s team - Ashok (guide) and Biraz (porter). We can only highly recommend their service, responsiveness and attention to detail. We have compared various agencies before choosing this one and are very happy. We also saw other guides on the trek and are certain now that we had the best. The company is also fair in terms of prices, guide was knowledgeable and we felt that we are in good hands. Next trip only with them!
Thank you very much Karna, Jay and everyone. Family of 6 doing 21 Day Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley. Highly recommend the firm. Karna was extremely professional with all our questions and arrangements. Our guide Jay and 3 porters were just wonderful, so caring about our needs and just wonderful with our 4 children aged 9-13. Highly recommended.
Regarding the sleeping pads; the entire Manaslu trip is well known as a tea house, and Homestay the basic trek, they provide the bed with quite good matters, normally you do not need to bring to it which might because of more weight, but if you have the blowing mattress then it is good sense to bring with you. But normally we are not suggesting bringing them for Manaslu Trek.
Glad to hear from you. For 4 to 5 days at begging it will be hot during the day, it will be about 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. And at the highest point in Larkya pass (5,160 m) will be 10 to 15 degrees Celsius during daytime and night and early morning will be 0 to -10 degrees Celsius outside. But it will depend on the following day's weather condition too. Normally, during this time weather is perfect. But the high Himalayan weather condition is unpredictable. It might be rain or snow at any time. Let’s, thing good then everything goes perfect. If you have the -6°C sleeping bag, it is good enough, if you feel not enough every tea house provides a blanket as well.
Regarding the bag for the porter; he will be happy to carry one bigger bag rather than two small bags. If you already have a rucksack, please bring your rucksack rather than the duffle bag. A rucksack (50 to 70 liters) is better to carry for the porter. But if you don’t have a rucksack, no problem bringing whatever you have got. We at Nepal Mother House also provide the duffle bag entire trip if you needed. For the day bag; you need each of you a day bag (15 to 30 liters) to keep in your valuable things and water.
Except for restricted area trip dates, if you wish to change the trip itinerary, you can talk with your guide. The itinerary is flexible. But in fact, the restricted area starts from Jagat (please see the itinerary), this is the entry point for Manaslu restricted area. Apart from exceptional cases, you can’t overstay the day of the permit. So, you must fix the day’s trip to spend in both restricted Areas before making a permit. It is not possible to add permits on additional days on the spot.
There are several side trips on Manaslu Trek, it depends on how many days trek you are looking for… it depends on a combination with Tsum Valley or only Manaslu Circuit. If you do not have more time then we suggest doing the only Manaslu Circuit trek with some side trip. Visit Tibet Border Ruila Pass (4,998m) from Samdo, Phungen Gumba from Sama Gaun or Shyala, to explore Kalo Tal from Prok Village and visit Himalchuli Base Camp (4020m) from Sho Village are the most popular side trip for Manaslu. For more detail about the Manaslu Circuit Side trek.
There are regular public buses every day from Kathmandu to Arughat Bazaar that leaves early in the morning (5:50 to 8:30 AM. Obviously, public bus is more crowded and take a long time. As you are asking for a private Jeep (Scorpio/ Land cruiser 6 to eight sitters), this is the best option for a much more comfortable journey for the whole day. To hire private vehicles cost will be about 200 to 250 USD for a single way.
I am glad to hear about your trip booking with us. I will do my best to make your enjoyable trip with an expert local guide and porters.
Regarding the trip booking; if it is possible, could you please send some money as advance booking, which makes comfort for you and we too, because sometimes, it will be difficult to provide expert Guide and porters last hours? Well, in our services we will provide you with Duffle bags, Down jackets, Sleeping bags during the trip (need to return back after the trip) but not trekking poles. Most of the things (trekking gars) you can buy or hire in Kathmandu at a reasonable price. For pairs of trekking poles cost starts 8 USD to above depend on the quality. I am glad to assist you to find those. Hiking poles will be best for the descending trail.
I am glad to hear from you. First, I would like to explain to you about terms of Trekking permits on Restricted Area; the itinerary is flexible normal trekking routes, except restricted area trip dates, if you wish to change the trip itinerary, you can talk with your guide and possible to change according to your requirements. During the Manaslu trip, the restricted area starts from Jagat (please see the itinerary), this is the entry point for both restricted areas (Tsum valley and Manaslu Circuit). So, the first section trek Tsum Valley permits count from Jagat to back to Lokpa for 8 days. Then count for Manaslu restricted Area on the second section Lokpa to beyond.
Apart from exceptional cases, it doesn't allow you to overstay then your permit's valid date. So, it is mandatory to fix the minimum trip days to spend in both restricted Areas (Tsum valley and Manaslu Circuit) before submitting the permit. But we are happy to provide you alternative trip according to your remaining time and cost worth.
I wish everything will go accordingly to schedule without any interruption. If in case, anybody can’t continue due to sick or injured, at the time one of your assistance will staying with her/him to taking care and rest of the group will be heading for the destination. According to the condition of sick people, our Guide consults with you and makes a decision, either stay at the same place or descend to a lower place or need rescue.
We have two Guides and three helpers for this trip and the bag will carry by Yaks/Dzomo or Zhom. As you have a specific of time (normally need to follow a schedule, due to us already booked the hotel entire trip and get the destination.
You are right, except the desert and snacks three times the meals (breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are included every day. You can choose the food from menu cards, whatever you like to have. While having one item meal is not sufficient for you, then you can order second food as well. But Nepalese culture said “Do not Waste Food”, this food might be source of surviving the other hunger.
This is the most important question. Normally, the drinking water and boiled water are not included in this cost, all of the places you can buy drinking water entire trail (can buy or filter) but self-purification methods will be best regarding environmental issues. So, please bring with you a purification machine or some other drugs for water treatment. And normally you need a minimum of 3 litter’s water each day, so considering this, bring a water bottle of about 4 liters each of you.
We have designed our Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek itinerary 26 days long. Depending upon the travel agency, the number of days might vary. Our itinerary is professionally designed, making sure you get enough time to enjoy the journey and acclimatize along the way.

We at Nepal Mother House also provide the duffle bag entire trip if you needed. For the day bag; you need each of you a day bag (15 to 30 liters) to keep in your valuable things and water.
