DOT SAP Providers offer a valuable service to employees who are struggling with drug and alcohol abuse. These providers offer an unbiased, confidential assessment of an employee’s alcohol and drug use. They also provide referrals for treatment, if necessary.

The substance abuse program (SAP) is a service provided by DOT Qualified providers to truck drivers who are required to participate in the program after violating DOT drug and alcohol regulations. Drivers must complete a DOT SAP return-to-duty process, which includes attending a DOT return-to-duty drug or alcohol education course and passing a return-to-duty drug test, before they can resume driving.

A DOT or (SAP Program for Truck Drivers) SAP provider is a professional that assists in the evaluation process for drivers. Following a positive drug test, the driver must be evaluated by a SAP provider that is trained and certified by the Department of Transportation. DOT SAP Providers determine if the driver has a substance abuse problem and if they are safe to return to driving. If the provider believes they are not safe to return to driving, they are referred to a treatment program.
