Puerto Galera is a small town in the province of Batangas on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It is located about 100 km southwest of Manila and about 50 km northeast of Tagbilaran City. "Puerto" means port or harbor, while "Galera" means river mouth.

The municipality was created under Republic Act No. 5400, signed into law on February 21, 1953, by President Elpidio Quirino. In 1957, it became part of the newly formed province of Batangas.

It has an area of 8.16 square kilometers (3.19 sq mi), covering most of the western coast of the island of Mindanao. Its population as of the 2010 census is approximately 20,000 people.

Puerto Galera is a very special spot in the Philippines where you can experience nature at its best. This once deserted fishing village now attracts tourists with its fine white sand beaches, crystal clear waters with many dive sites, rustic accommodation, and friendly locals. A perfect destination for families who want to sit back, relax and enjoy some time out of their busy everyday lives.

How to get there:

There are many ways to go to Puerto Galera, such as by land, sea, or air. If you have your car, that would be the easiest way, but if not, they provide transport services, so you don't need to worry. Some jeepneys run along the coastal areas, but I find them dangerous.

If you choose to go by land, you'll take the bus from Cubao Terminal in Quezon City. You may also take a bus from Pasay or Taguig.

If you decide to go by sea, you'll first head to Ospital ng Maynila in Makati City. From here, you'll board Sagisag's ferry terminal in San Pedro, Laguna. You may alsochoose to go through Dinalupihan in Bataan.

If you decide to fly, you'll first take a flight to Caticlan Airport in Cavite. Then you'll transfer to Zamboanga International Airport in Zamboanga del Sur. From here, you will board a boat bound for Puerto Galera. If you want to get further information, then click here for more details.

I have been to Puerto Galera, and I can tell you that it is a very beautiful place, but there are some things you need to know before going there. First, the best way to get to Puerto Galera from Manila is by bus or jeepney. It takes about 3 hours to reach Puerto Galera from Manila. The buses leave every hour, starting at5:30 AM, and they charge around Php 150 per person for the trip. If you want to save money, you should buy your ticket in advance because tickets will be sold out on the day of departure. When you arrive in Puerto Galera, take a tricycle to your hotel. They usually cost around Php 50-100 depending on where you stay. I think the most important thing when visiting Puerto Galera is to do the Lagoon tour. You can find many travel agencies that offer this tour service. When choosing one, ensure they are licensed, and their boats are safe. Also, choose a company with an English-speaking guide. If you decide to visit the beach, bring sunscreen lotion, a hat, sunglasses, a towel, and something to read.
