The motor insurance provided by an insurance company varies on factors like the city of vehicle registration, area code, type and model of vehicle, year of registration, etc. Primarily, motor insurance has two classifications: third-party coverage and comprehensive coverage.

Third-party policies cover individuals who have been in an accident caused by their vehicles from third-party liabilities. In this case, only the damage incurred to third-party vehicles, individuals, and property is covered. Personal vehicle damages and theft are usually not covered in such policies.

The comprehensive policies cover individuals in the event of an accident, in cases of theft of the vehicle, natural calamities, third-party liabilities, man-made hazards, explosions, and fire and damage during transit, roadside assistance, etc. Most of these policies do not cover driving errors (under the influence, rash driving, no license), intentional damages, normal wear-and-tear, damages due to illegal activities, and war.

When buying an insurance policy, it is ideal to consider factors like coverage, add-on cover, personal accident claims, no claim bonus, network garages, and claim settlement ratio.
