Picric acid is a flammable/combustible substance that is extremely unstable. A C-nitro chemical known as picric acid is composed of phenol and three nitro groups at the 2-, 4-, and 6-positions. It functions as an antibacterial, an explosive, and a fixative.
It shares functional similarities with phenol and 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene. It is a picrate anion's conjugate acid. Early in the 20th century, Picric Acid was employed to assess blood glucose levels. A characteristic red color is produced when glucose, picric acid, and sodium carbonate are heated collectively. A calibrating glucose solution's red hue can be utilized to calculate the added glucose levels. It is known as the Lewis and Benedict system of glucose calculation.
