The Upanishads form the basis of Hindu culture and civilization. The study of the Upanishads is central to the discovery of Hindu philosophical thought and its immediate significance. They are timeless ie Sanatana. They speak fresh and new to each individual at every stage of life. Each encounter with the Upanishads reveals our understanding of the meaning and purpose of human life in a deeper and broader sense.
The Introduction to the Upanishads is a two-act sequence consisting of two parts. These 2 parts can be taken in any order.
Part 1 will introduce the first six Upanishads: Isha, Kena, Katha, Prashna, Mundaka and Mandukya
Part 2 will introduce five more Upanishads: Taittiriya, Aitareya, Chandogya, Brhadaranyaka and Shvetasvatara Upanishad.
Course content:
The 'Introduction to Upanishads' course will present various Upanishad dialogues and stories reflecting the philosophical understanding of concepts such as Brahman, Aatman, Creation, Universe, Slavery, Moksha, Karma, Immortality and Anand. This course aims to explore and understand the roots of Hindu philosophy and its contemporary relevance in our lives.
