Reading Quran is a vital part of our Islamic practices. Allah ordered us to read, learn, understand Quran, and teach it to our children as well. Learning Quran for kids can be challenging since it includes learning complex concepts and interpreting new words. Simple steps, though, will make things easier.

Keep reading to know more about the effective ways of getting your child to read the Quran.

“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.”

(Quran, 33:21)

Noor Academy’s Quran Classes will guide and teach your child To read the Quran you need to start from square one by teaching them the basics of the Quran language. Since Quran is written in Arabic, they must be able to read the Arabic language and be familiar with how to pronounce each word.

Then, you can recite the Quran in front of them daily, or you can play recitations from the internet. You may use the Teach children Quran repeating application on Google Play to help your children repeat what the Sheikh says.

Focus on the last Juz of Quran as it contains the shortest of Surahs that can be easily read and repeated.

Reading Arabic is your child’s first step into being able to read Quran. You can’t make them read the Quran without teaching them proper Arabic reading and understanding.

Step one is teaching them the Arabic alphabet. They should be familiar with the 28 letters of the alphabet and how to pronounce them. This can be made easier by making them repeatedly listen to the sounds of these letters.

Step two is teaching them sounds and vowels, which is an important part of learning how to read Arabic.

Step three is teaching other more advanced elements such as shaddah (شَدَّة), madd (مَدّ), sukun (سُکون), ishbaa (اشباع), and the meeting of two sukuns (إلتِقاءُ الساکِنَين). This advanced stage should be approached when your child is at least 10 years old, otherwise, it would be difficult. Continuous Quran listening will do this at a much younger age.

Note that your children should listen to the right recitations of al quran al kareem and try to repeat what they hear until they get it right. It’s one of the most effective ways to teach the Quran for children.

Keep practicing with a consistent schedule and do your best to stick to it.

The time it takes to learn to read Quran depends on (a) your age and (b) the time you dedicate to the learning process.

A 5-to-8 years old child will be able to flawlessly read Quran within 3 years. While a 10-to-13 years old child will achieve that in less than 2 years. Adults can learn how to read Quran in less than a year.

These durations can be extended if you don’t give enough time for learning daily. If you can’t spare some daily time to learn how to learn Quran, make sure to at least take lessons twice a week in order to achieve progress.

Teaching Quran for kids is a lot easier if they’re assigned to Quran classes. Enrolling in special online Quran classes for kids can be optimal in making fast progress incorrectly reading the Quran with the help of professional teachers, who can detect mistakes and mentor your kids.

No, not reading Quran is not a sin as it’s not obligatory (Fard) but it’s recommended (Mustahab) in Islam which means that the action is rewarded, but whose omission is not punishable.

The Holy Quran acts as our guide in The Last Day (Yaum Al Qiyamah) so it’s favorable to recite Quran as much as you can in your life. Allah made reading al Quran al Kareem as rewarding in life as it is in the afterlife. Sayyidatina Aishah once reported:

“And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?”

“Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.”

“[Say, O Muhammad], “I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city, who made it sacred and to whom [belongs] all things. And I am commanded to be of the Muslims [those who submit to Allah] And to recite the Qur’an.” And whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] himself; and whoever strays – say, “I am only [one] of the warners.”

Usually, it is time for a child to learn to read the Quran at the same time that he goes to school and learns to read and write in his own language. That would probably be at the age of seven. You can start to teach them earlier as there are lots of Quran lessons for kids below the age of seven.

Yes, it is possible to memorize the Quran in one year if you dedicated 5-to-8 hours to memorize new parts and 2 hours for revision on a daily basis. This involves memorizing 15 pages a week and devoting the weekend to revising the Juz (part) you memorized.
