A significant barrier to the development of digital forensics is a lack of understanding among small and medium-sized businesses. Due to their high cost and complexity, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) are hesitant to employ these forensics technologies. This is because of their limited financial resources. Another significant factor impeding Digital Forensics expansion is the scarcity of competent labour among SMEs. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Analysis shows that while businesses in the U.S. have adopted digital forensics technology to a large extent, businesses in Europe, especially small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), have yet to fully realise its potential.
