Gas Insulated Transformer Require A Hermetically Sealed Tank To Contain The SF6 Gas
The main advantages of Gas Insulated Transformer over traditional oil-filled transformers are their high reliability, compact size, and low maintenance requirements

The design and construction of GITs is more complex than that of oil-filled transformers. Gas Insulated Transformer require a hermetically sealed tank to contain the SF6 gas, which must be able to withstand high pressure and temperature fluctuations. The tank is typically made of stainless steel or aluminum, and is designed to be as compact as possible. The windings of the transformer are encased in an insulating material, such as epoxy resin, which is then placed inside the tank.

The SF6 gas is then introduced into the tank under pressure, and the tank is sealed. The entire unit is then tested for leaks and electrical integrity. Gas Insulated Transformer is typically smaller than oil-filled transformers, which means that they require less space in a substation. They are also easier to transport and install, as they do not require the large quantities of oil needed for oil-filled transformers.
