Why Was Surah Zukhruf Revealed? | Rahman School

Why Was Surah Zukhruf Revealed? Surah Zukhruf (Arabic : سورة الزخرف )  Surat az zukhruf is one of the Sarah’s that was revealed to the messenger of Allah, and it talked about the journey of da’wah to the Islamic religion and the problems that faced the holders of da’wah.

Why Was Surah Zukhruf Revealed?

Surah Zukhruf was revealed as follows, Allah opened the surah with praise of the Qur’an, and it was revealed to confirm the Prophet(peace be upon him) on what had befallen him from his people.  Where Allah challenged his creation with the Qur’an.

Surah az-zukhruf also spoke about the great role of the noble Quran in repelling the ideas of the unbelievers and confronting them in a strong manner.

Surat az zukhruf began by clarifying the idea of Allah almighty’s unparalleled destiny in the creation of the heavens and the earth and its preparation for the servants and his grace in the rain descending from the sky so that the crops grow, and the livestock eats and the earth live, and mentioned the blessings of Allah that do not count, counted from the creation of pairs and making it possible for the ark and the cattle to ride on them.

Surah az zukhruf also talked about how Allah sent many prophets to guide polytheism and unbelievers, but it was only that he destroyed them because of what they did.

What is surah az-zukhruf about?

Surah zukhruf talked about the journey of advocacy for the Islamic religion and the obstacles faced by the proponents of da’wah.

Allah mentioned the ability of the holy Quran and its role in repelling the ideas of the infidels and confronting them in a strong way.

So, surat az zukhruf mentioned that Allah almighty sent many prophets to guide the polytheists and unbelievers, But it was only from them that they mocked them, and it was only from Allah that he destroyed them for their actions.

And surah al zukhruf began explaining the unparalleled ability of Allah almighty in creating the heavens and the earth that he paved for the servants, and his virtue is in the rain descending from the sky so that the crops grow and the cattle eat, and thus the earth lives.

Surah az zukhruf also mentioned his numerous and innumerable blessings from the creation of husbands and the availability of arks and livestock to ride on.

Where was surah Zukhruf revealed?

Surah zukhruf was revealed in Makkah before the hijrah, except for verse 54, which was revealed in bait al-maqdis with the incident of the night journey.

When was surah Zukhruf revealed?

Surah az zukhruf, with all its verses, was revealed in Mecca before the Hijrah, except for the Almighty’s saying:

“وَاسْأَلْ مَنْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَا أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ الرَّحْمَـنِ آلِهَةً يُعْبَدُونَ”

So it was revealed in Bait Al-Maqdis, during the Night Journey, this is incompatible with the fact that this verse is Meccan as well – the Meccan concept is all the verses and surahs that were revealed to the Holy Prophet before the Hijrah, whether it was in Mecca or elsewhere.

Why the surah was named Az-Zukhruf?

Surah e zukhruf is known by this name because the word “zukhruf ” appeared in the verses of the surah, the almighty said:

“وَزُخْرُفًا وَإِن كُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمَّا مَتَاعُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ”

and that is in the context of talking about the enjoyment of the worldly life and the decorations in it-the plural of decorations-which deceive the eyes, so they are preoccupied with it about the affairs of the hereafter and preparing for the great day, and the word “zukhruf “means decorated and colored shapes, and he said about it in abbas: it is gold or silver, and silver is most likely because it reflects light and has a shiny and lustrous appearance.

What is the main theme of surah az-zukhruf?

Surah az zukhruf includes many topics, the most important of which are:

  • The Quran and its place.
  • Mockery and extravagant punishment.
  • Allah’s greatness and grace the slander of the polytheists and the response to them.
  • Devil’s companion.
  • Messenger’s directions.
  • Stories of the prophets (the story of Moses with pharaoh _ the story of Jesus).
  • Punishment of the righteous and the punishment of criminals.
  • Evidence for the oneness of Allah.

Is surah al zukhruf makki or madani?

Surah al zukhruf is surah makki because it was revealed in Makkah before the hijrah, except for verse 54 which was revealed in bait al-maqdis.

In which para is surah az-zukhruf?

Surah az-Zukhruf is located in the 25 part and one of the walls of al Hawamim.

Surah e zukhruf revealed after surah al-Shura.

The number of verses is 89.

The number of words is 825.

The number of letters is 3703.

The order of surah az zukhruf

 in the Holy Quran 43.

Surah Zukhruf benefits

Although there are no valid traces that speak of the virtue of reading surah az-zukhruf in particular, surah al zukhruf has many virtues that can positively reflect on the life of a Muslim.

Some of these virtues are mentioned, for example, but not limited to:

  • The noble Quran is the book of Allah that he revealed in the Arabic language for them to understand and reflect upon its verses, and he commended it- Siobhan-and urged his servants to reflect upon it so that they understand its rulings and realize what it contains noble morals, so they believe in it and follow its commands.
  • Whoever insists on unbelief and continues in stubbornness and denial has no destiny but prediction, for this is one of the ways of Allah-the mighty and sublime-in his being.
  • It is Allah-the mighty and sublime-who is worthy of worship alone; because all that is in the universe is of a splendid creation and good management, for he alone is singular in absolute power, complete majesty, and perfect attributes.
  • The belief that runs in society and is inherited by children and parents from grandparents, does not mean that it is correct and does not prove its credibility.
  • Being arrogant on earth does not save him from Allah’s torment, for the servant, no matter how much his value and power, and whatever worldly money and adornments, and he did not acknowledge Allah-the most high-in the oneness of Allah, turn to him in worship then he is destined to be lost and tormented.

Hadith on surah az-zukhruf

It was mentioned in the merit of surah zukhruf from hadiths in the prophetic sunnah:

The first Hadith

“I was taught a verse from the Quran that no man had ever asked me about. tomorrow is gone, so when tomorrow came, l said O I need Abbas, you mentioned yesterday that a verse of the Quran that no man ever asked you about, and you don’t know it, so they did not ask about it or did they not understand it. The messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to Quraysh:O people of Quraish, there is no one who is worshiped besides Allah in whom it is good. O Muhammad, do you not claim that Jesus was a prophet and righteous servant of Allah’s servants? so if you are truthful, then Allah is as you say. He said: then Allah almighty revealed in surah e zukhruf

 وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ابْنُ” مَرْيَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوْمُكَ

مِنْهُ يَصِدُّونَ”

He said: I said: what are they repelling? He said: they are roaring. “And indeed, the hour is known,” he said: it is the emergence of Jesus, the son of Mary, peace be upon him, before the day of resurrection. “Narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas, the source of Musnad Ahmed”

The second Hadith

The merit of surah al zukhruf is also indicated by the inclusion of the supplication for travel within the verses of surah e zukhruf, as it came in the honorable hadith: “The Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) would, when he traveled, ride on his camel, say the takbeer three times, then said:”

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ* وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ

Surat az zukhruf is one of the widows (Hamm) whose virtues were mentioned in the noble Prophet’s census, and this is what increases the merits of surah e zukhruf.

The third Hadith

A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said, “Oh, Messenger of Allah, read me.” He said, “Recite from the animate beings of Allah.” He said, “O Messenger of Allah, make my tongue heavy and my body thicken.” He said, “Recite from the vertebrates.” He said the same as his first saying. {If the earth is shaken by an earthquake,} he said, the Bedouin said, “It is my fault.” narrated by Abdullah bin Madoud Sahih Al-Bukhari.

Work with the Qur’an, make what is permissible and forbid what is forbidden and follow it, and do not disbelieve in any of it, and the Qur’an and what it contains the clarification will be sufficient for you, for it is an intercessor and an intercessor. The book from under the throne.” narrated by Ubay bin kabab, is a sufficient source.

surah zukhruf in English

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

  1. Ha-Mim
  2. By the Book that makes things clear,-
  3. We have made it a Quran in Arabic, that ye may be able to understand (and learn wisdom).
  4. And verily, it is in the Mother of the Book, in Our Presence, high (in dignity), full of wisdom.
  5. Shall We then take away the Message from you and repel (you), for that ye are a people transgressing beyond bounds?
  6. But how many were the prophets We sent amongst the peoples of old?
  7. And never came there a prophet to them but they mocked him.
  8. So We destroyed (them)- stronger in power than these;- and (thus) has passed on the Parable of the peoples of old.
  9. If thou wert to question them, Who created the heavens and the earth? They would be sure to reply, they were created by (Him), the Exalted in Power, Full of Knowledge;-
  10. (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way);
  11. That sends down (from time to time) rain from the sky in due measure;- and We raise to life therewith a land that is dead; even so will ye be raised (from the dead);-
  12. That has created pairs in all things, and has made for you ships and cattle on which ye ride,
  13. In order that ye may sit firm and square on their backs, and when so seated, ye may celebrate the (kind) favor of your Lord, and say, “Glory to Him Who has subjected these to our (use), for we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves),
  14. “And to our Lord, surely, must we turn back!”
  15. Yet they attribute to some of His servants a share with Him (in his godhead)! truly is man a blasphemous ingrate avowed!
  16. What! has He taken daughters out of what He himself creates, and granted to you sons for choice?
  17. When news is brought to one of them of (the birth of) what he sets up as a likeness to (Allah) Most Gracious, his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief!
  18. Is then one brought up among trinkets, and unable to give a clear account in a dispute (to be associated with Allah)?
  19. And they make into females angels who themselves serve Allah. Did they witness their creation? Their evidence will be recorded, and they will be called to account!
  20. (“Ah!”) they say, “If it had been the will of (Allah) Most Gracious, we should not have worshipped such (deities)!” Of that, they have no knowledge! they do nothing but lie!
  21. What! have We given them a Book before this, to which they are holding fast?
  22. Nay! they say: “We found our fathers following a certain religion, and we do guide ourselves by their footsteps.”
  23. Just in the same way, whenever We sent a Warner before thee to any people, the wealthy ones among them said: “We found our fathers following a certain religion, and we will certainly follow in their footsteps.”
  24. He said: “What! Even if I brought you better guidance than that which ye found your fathers following?” They said: “For us, we deny that ye (prophets) are sent (on a mission at all).”
  25. So We exacted retribution from them: now see what was the end of those who rejected (Truth)!
  26. Behold! Abraham said to his father and his people: “I do indeed clear myself of what ye worship:
  27. “(I worship) only Him Who made me, and He will certainly guide me.”
  28. And he left it as a Word to endure among those who came after him, that they may turn back (to Allah).
  29. Yea, I have given the good things of this life to these (men) and their fathers, until the Truth has come to them, and a messenger making things clear.
  30. But when the Truth came to them, they said: “This is sorcery, and we do reject it.”
  31. Also, they say: “Why is not this Quran sent down to some leading man in either of the two (chief) cities?”
  32. Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of thy Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of thy Lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass.
  33. And were it not that (all) men might become of one (evil) way of life, We would provide, for everyone that blasphemes against (Allah) Most Gracious, silver roofs for their houses and (silver) stair-ways on which to go up,
  34. And (silver) doors to their houses, and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline,
  35. And also adornments of gold. But all this were nothing but conveniences of the present life: The Hereafter, in the sight of thy Lord, is for the Righteous.
  36. If anyone withdraws himself from the remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him.
  37. Such (evil ones) really hinder them from the Path, but they think that they are being guided aright!
  38. At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): “Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!” Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)!
  39. When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment!
  40. Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error?
  41. Even if We take thee away, We shall be sure to exact retribution from them,
  42. Or We shall show thee that (accomplished) which We have promised them: for verily We shall prevail over them.
  43. So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way.
  44. The (Quran) is indeed the message, for thee and for thy people; and soon shall ye (all) be brought to account.
  45. And question thou our messengers whom We sent before thee; did We appoint any deities other than (Allah) Most Gracious, to be worshipped?
  46. We did send Moses aforetime, with Our Signs, to Pharaoh and his Chiefs: He said, “I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds.”
  47. But when he came to them with Our Signs, behold they ridiculed them.
  48. We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us).
  49. And they said, “O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance.”
  50. But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word.
  51. And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: “O my people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, (witness) these streams flowing underneath my (palace)? What! see ye not then?
  52. “Am I not better than this (Moses), who is a contemptible wretch and can scarcely express himself clearly?
  53. “Then why are not gold bracelets bestowed on him, or (why) come (not) with him angels accompanying him in procession?”
  54. Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah).
  55. When at length they provoked Us, We exacted retribution from them, and We drowned them all.
  56. And We made them (a people) of the Past and an Example to later ages.
  57. When (Jesus) the son of Mary is held up as an example, behold, thy people raise a clamor thereat (in ridicule)!
  58. And they say, “Are our gods best, or he?” This they set forth to thee, only by way of disputation: yea, they are a contentious people.
  59. He was no more than a servant: We granted Our favor to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel.
  60. And if it were Our Will, We could make angels from amongst you, succeeding each other on the earth.
  61. And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way.
  62. Let not the Evil One hinder you: for he is to you an enemy avowed.
  63. When Jesus came with Clear Signs, he said: “Now have I come to you with Wisdom, and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) on which ye dispute: therefore fear Allah and obey me.
  64. “For Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord: so worsh
