While many different drinks are marketed as "T," only green T, black T, white T, oolong T, and pu-erh T are considered to be genuine Ts by purists. All of them come from the Camellia sinensis plant, a shrub that is indigenous to China and India, and it has unique antioxidants called flavonoids. The most potent of these, ECGC, might support efforts to counteract free radicals, which can result in cancer, heart disease, and blocked arteries.

The more the Tea  leaves are processed, the less polyphenols are typically present. Polyphenols include flavonoids. Due to oxidation or fermentation, oolong and black Ts have lower polyphenol concentrations than green T, but they still have a potent antioxidizing effect.
