Fluorite's main applications include flux in the production of steel, opalescent glass, enamels for kitchenware, hydrofluoric acid, high-performance telescopes, camera lenses, and as an index mineral of the "Four" Mohs hardness scale. The solid form of calcium fluoride is called Fluorspar, often known as fluorite. It is used as a flux for melting, to make enamels and glasses, as well as for decorative purposes. When fluorite is marketed in bulk or processed form, it is referred to as fluorspa and comes in three different grades (acid, ceramic, and metallurgical). Fluorspa of the acid grade is a highly pure substance utilised in the chemical industry.
