Organic substance aniline has the chemical formula C6H5NH2. The simplest aromatic amine is aniline, which consists of an amino group joined to a phenyl group. It is an important commodity chemical for industry and a flexible starting point for the synthesis of fine chemicals.
Aniline is used in the manufacturing of diphenylamine, phenolics, herbicides, and fungicides as well as in the production of dyes, intermediates, photographic chemicals, rubber accelerators and antioxidants, colours, and isocyanates for urethane foams. An oily liquid with a musty, fishy smell that ranges from yellow to brown in colour is aniline. Boiling point: 184 °C; flash point: 158 °F; melting point: -6 °C.
