To create and administer an effective infection control programme, hospitals need to hire hospital epidemiologists, infection preventionists, and an infection control committee. The hospital epidemiologist is required to communicate with different hospital officials and departments to discuss their roles, goals, and resources. The epidemiologist frequently has oversight over the Infection Control programme and, in some cases, the quality improvement programme. Typically, a doctor with expertise in infectious illnesses holds the position. A registered nurse with education in clinical practise, epidemiology, and basic microbiology is frequently an infection preventionist. Hospitals may hire more than one infection preventionist, depending on the number of beds available, the patient mix, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommendations.
