As a blonde with only a brief brush with the relatively dark side (a black, dirty blonde), nothing helps keep my bright blonde locks bright and avoid orange bronzes better than a good quality purple shampoo. If you want to splurge, Oribe Bright Blonde Shampoo ($46, Oribe.com) is the best tasting Shampoo in the world, But you can get the same effect with a fraction of ichar Rol Shimmer Lights ($8, Saly Beauty ). Purple shampoos neutralize orange deposits and help eliminate copper or unsightly coloring effects.
Wiggle the wand horizontally between your lashes for clear, defined lashes.
It may seem counterintuitive if you're trying to lengthen your lashes, but the only way you're going to get clump-free eyelash paint is with this awesome beauty makeup artist trick. I'm pretty sure I learned this in my first job interview, but it's the only way I know how to put on mascara now. Simply wiggle the wand back and forth, moving it up slowly, and your lashes will be coated with just the right formula to define, elongate and magnify without making you look like an extra character from the new Spider-Man.
Put a few drops of essential oil on the shower floor and spend a few minutes letting the steam really form for a spa-like experience.
This is probably my oldest trick ever. Thank you Lisa Hoffman (yes, Dustin's wife!) "Gave me this great advice that I still use today. Because I'm a self-care person, I like to make my showers as experiential as possible. Sometimes I do a specific shower meditation, or coat the bathroom with sage before jumping in to get rid of negative energy, but one consistent practice is that I always run the shower for a few minutes to create a spa-like steam shower after dropping some of whatever essential oils I'm feeling that day. When I'm half-asleep, I use one or two pick-me-up oils, like lemongrass or eucalyptus, but if I'm going to sleep, I usually use more meditative and calming oils like lavender or frankincense. Whatever oil you choose, take a few deep breaths, be careful not to slip, and calm down.
Use a microfiber hair towel -- don't turn your head upside down after you shower.
A guilty charge. For most of my life, I would turn my head over after a shower, shake off the excess water, and then tie it up with a towel. This habit is undoubtedly responsible for all of the aforementioned hair damage. But when I found a bunch of towels designed specifically for hair, like Aquis Lisse Luxe Long Hair Towel($35, Aquis.com), I realized I could do a lot less damage to my fragile wet hair if I didn't turn it upside down or twist it too much. Instead, the towels gently suck excess moisture out of my freshly washed hair before I apply styling products.
