The developer is aiming at the world of Gielinor and OSRS Gold and plans to launch two board games and the tabletop RPG's core book in the coming year. The two RPG adaptations will have many of RuneScape's most loved characters and locations, allowing a group with up to five players to take on classic quests found in RuneScape while bringing adventure within this world called Gielinor home.
Players can design and upgrade their equipment, play with NPCs and tackle many side missions inspired by classic MMORPG. The board game is set to go on sale by means of a Kickstarter campaign later this year. Meanwhile, the core tabletop RPG book is expected to launch in stores directly.
The tabletop core book RPGs will notably be fully compatible with tabletop RPGs of massive size Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition books, allowing dungeon masters to seamlessly integrate elements of RuneScape into their games.
Jagex Director of Operations Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project , and expressed his enthusiasm over this Kickstarter initiative "involving those from RuneScape players," while Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe is going to translate beautifully" into a tabletop environment.
RuneScape has grown considerably from its web-based predecessors in recent years with Steamforged's board game just the most recent game from Jagex. In an interview, several Jagex employees discussed the process of transforming Runescape's mobile game into the cross-platform game last September.
Jagex joined forces with the creator of the cult Old School RuneScape mod RuneLite HD to make the HD version available for all players. Steamforged's board game is set to allow the avid fans of RuneScape another opportunity to explore the world of Gielinor and create their own adventures.
Runescape developer Jagex's publishing unit has been able to secure a promising indie title for their Jagex Partners label, making Melvor Idle an independent not anymore. The idler title, similar to games such as Clicker Heroes or Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, made its debut on Steam earlier this year.
