During the men’s Royal Rumble match that opened the Royal Rumble event, Rey Mysterio was the 17th entrant in the match. However, Ray never appeared in the match.
The 18th man to enter the Royal Rumble was Rey’s son Dominik Mysterio, who turned him over to join the Judgment Day group months earlier. Rey was sent to SmackDown to get away from Dominic, but the storyline continued when Dominik attacked Rey at his house, and after that Rey arrested Dominik for his behavior on Christmas Eve. The story was done in such a way that it looked like Dominik beat up Rey Mysterio and stole his mask, although we never saw Rey on the show.
