What is the Combination of Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarms?
Smoke Alarms

An alarm that has sensors to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide is known as a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. These alarms, which are mounted on the ceiling or a wall close to it, may resemble smoke alarms. The presence of fuel-burning appliances in your home, such as an oil or gas boiler, furnace, water heater, fireplace, etc., necessitates the installation of carbon monoxide detectors.

Some Smoke Alarms have a sealed, non-replaceable battery that lasts up to 10 years and powers the smoke alarm. Although the batteries in this alarm don't need to be changed often, you should still test them once a month. Some smoke alarms are equipped with a secondary battery backup in addition to primary power that is hardwired from the home's electrical system. The secondary battery backup can either be a battery that needs to be changed at least once a year or a sealed battery with a 10-year shelf life.
