Military training aircraft are used to train pilots to operate advanced aircraft. They are also used for the training of young military officers. The training aircraft are typically single engine airplanes, some air forces use two-seat fighters or ultra-light aircraft for the early stages of their programs.
During the first stage of primary training, students learn how to navigate and fly the airplane, which is usually a light piston-engined trainer. They also acquire the skills to pilot a flight simulator.
In phase II, students continue their flying instruction on a more challenging airplane. These aircraft have higher performance and are normally capable of high energy manoeuvres. Some aircraft may be converted to a reconnaissance or bomber role, although they might have a reduced range due to decreased internal fuel load.
