Ethanolamines

A class of antihistamines with an ethyl-amine group joined to a diphenyl structure is also referred to as thanolamine. This class of medications includes diphenhydramine, phenyltoloxamine (Percogesic), and doxylamine, as examples. Even though they are among the oldest antihistamine drug classes, they continue to be the most effective at treating allergy symptoms, even outperforming more recent OTC and prescription antihistamines like loratadine (Claritin) and fexofenadine. But even more so than many barbiturates, all ethanolamines are very sedative.
