A bronchoscope is an endoscopic tool used to examine the inner workings of the lungs during a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure. To view the distal branches of the bronchi, bronchoscopes are instruments inserted through the mouth, nose, or occasionally a tracheostomy. Additionally, bronchoscopes are frequently employed in the diagnosis of tumours, parasites, infections, inflammation, foreign bodies, and lung bleeding. Based on their designs, bronchoscopes can be divided into two categories: rigid and flexible.
Flexible bronchoscopes are designed to allow greater entrance because they use flexible optical cables that enable real-time video recording, whereas rigid bronchoscopes use metal parts that enable them to remove foreign bodies. The flexible bronchoscope can bend up to 180 degrees, giving it excellent manoeuvrability.
