Induction loops are the primary, most dependable, and widespread Traffic Sensor. Induction loops are wire coils buried in the road's surface that detect changes in inductance and transmit those readings to the sensor electronics to generate signals. A generator typically supplies the loop with a specific frequency, creating an induced magnetic field. The coils will develop a stronger field that can endure for a while even after the switch is opened as the magnetic field keeps expanding as a result of continued current flow. An induction loop should contain multiple wire coils and an iron core to increase inductance and improve reliability in traffic detection.
