Influenza vaccines, also referred to as flu shots, are immunizations that guard against contracting influenza viruses. Due to the Seasonal Influenza Vaccines rapid evolution, new vaccine versions are created twice annually. While the degree of protection they offer against influenza varies from year to year, the majority do so. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US estimate that getting the flu shot reduces illness, doctor visits, hospital stays, and deaths. Immunized workers who do get the flu on average return to work half a day sooner.
