To compensate for the considerable working heat, these lamps require a robust cooling system. They are typically air or air/water cooled. They also employ reflectors to increase the amount of UV Lamps delivered to the substrate. For optimal curing, there must be an even flow of air or water across the bulb. If the lamps run too cool, the ink or coating may not cure.
Some systems use outside air to cool themselves. Depending on your geographic location, you may need to modify your fan speed or increase/decrease water temperature to maintain optimum cooling as the seasons change. Another issue that can impair lamp performance is contamination. Because of the high temperatures, air pollutants such as spray powder from other presses or dust particles can bake on the UV Lamps, causing a haze. This reduces the lamp's performance. Ideally, the quartz should be perfectly clear even after extended use.
