Gandhinar. Raids were conducted in 17 jails of Gujarat on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday (24-25 March). According to information, raids are going on in jails of cities like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat, Narmada, Junagadh, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar in Gujarat. 1700 security personnel have been deployed in the search operation. The raids began in Gandhinagar after a meeting of high officials, including the state's DGP, under the chairmanship of the Minister of State for Home Affairs.
Why is this action being taken
This action is being taken to find out about the suspicious activities of the gangsters lodged in the jails. The police is checking to prevent any illegal activities inside the jail and the facilities being provided to the prisoners as per the law. It is believed that this entire action was taken after getting inputs from IB. Recently, gangster Atiq Ahmed, who was lodged in Sabarmati jail, got Umesh Pal murdered while in jail.
