For many years, enzymes have been utilised in place of chemicals to increase the efficacy and economy of a variety of industrial systems and processes. Basic proteases, often referred to as alkaline proteases, are a class of enzymes usually employed as detergent additives since they are active in the neutral to alkaline pH range. The isoelectric point of the majority of alkaline proteases is around pH 9, while their optimum pH is often around 10.

They are created by a variety of alkalophilic bacteria and are capable of withstanding very alkaline settings. Alkaline proteases are derived from a variety of microorganisms, including certain yeasts, bacteria, and fungus.
