Due to their ability to go off-road and their car-like characteristics, Sports Utility Vehicle (SUVs) are becoming more and more popular with consumers. Some of the leading luxury automobile manufacturers with premium SUVs are Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Land Rover, and Volvo. Sports utility vehicles that are offered in the Indian market include the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, Tata Safari Storme 4X4, Ford Endeavour 4X4, Mahindra Thar, and others.

The Sports Utility Vehicle (SUVs) was developed by automakers out of necessity, like other vehicles. They want a four-wheel drive car with a little extra trunk space in the late 1930s. The definition of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) is up for debate. A sturdy automobile built on a light-truck chassis and resembling a station waggon is what is referred to as an SUV. The 1933 Chevy Suburban is one of the earliest alternatives regarded as an early SUV. It reportedly had four doors and was frequently referred to as the "Carryall Suburban" since it could carry anything. It is now the longest production car available. Before someone decided that SUVs were a thing, the Suburban was an SUV.
