The common, or standard, Cement Board is water resistant but not waterproof. It is frequently used as a backdrop for washbasin, tub and shower tiles in bathrooms. This board has a gypsum-based core and a reinforced cement covering. When put in moist places, the edges must be sealed to keep water out. Though it may absorb some moisture, if properly sealed, it will not decay or mildew when placed in moist environments.
