Some thoughtfully placed lights will offer a cosy ambiance, enough light to eat by, and a degree of safety along shady walks as day goes to darkness and nightfall into night. Outdoor lighting can include a combination of overhead, wall, and table fixtures, much like its interior siblings. In addition, floor lamps in the shape of lanterns and hurricane lights can provide a touch of summertime flare. You may choose the appropriate types and styles for each application using our helpful guide. Oh, and before you begin lighting up your outside areas, be sure to read the professional safety advice.

Pendant lights

These adaptable sparkling threads can be used for a wide range of purposes, including defining edges and borders, wrapping columns, bannisters, or even trees, and hanging suspended over an area to create a mystical and enchanting glow.

Using twine

as a stand-in and stretching it from point to point exactly where your lights would go will help you determine the length you'll need. (Remember to add enough to go to the outlet.) Measure once around columns or trees, then multiply that measurement by the number of times you'll wind your light around. To calculate the quantity you'll need to buy, divide the total length by the length of a single strand.

Installation:

Use a staple gun and 3/8-inch galvanised steel staples (they won't rust) to connect to walls, beams, columns, and trees. Make sure there is some slack when you attach the first point, and begin close to the power source (after unplugging, of course). To avoid stapling through the wiring, always keep the strands centred! Staple halfway between each bulb for larger, farther-spaced bulbs. Depending on the weight of your lights, you can get away with stapling every 12 to 24 inches for smaller, closer lights.

Try suspending a row of lights in the air to harness the star-like magic of string lights. This is especially lovely above an outdoor dining area or beneath a covered patio (if the ceiling is high enough). For longer-distance outdoor string lights

Bulb size: While larger lights can offer a significant amount of direct illumination, smaller ones offer a softer, more ornamental background twinkling. Keep in mind that you may always add more types of lights for greater brightness once they are installed. Don't overwhelm and take into account where your lights are going.

Colors: White lights are the most adaptable; colourful strands or whimsical bulb covers can be lively possibilities for special occasions—shell-shaped lights for a beach house, flamingos for summer, miniature Japanese lanterns for the backyard. While incandescent or Edison-style globes are traditional and warm, halogen and LED bulbs are brighter and cooler.
