In Pharmaceuticals And Cosmetic Creams, Citric Acid Ester Is Used As An Emulsifier
Citric Acid Ester

Citric Acid Ester (CAEs) have been suggested as a class of phthalate-alternative plasticizers, although there is little information available on their prevalence in indoor settings. We created a comprehensive method for screening Citric Acid Ester utilizing a quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometer in conjunction with liquid chromatography that may be used for target, suspect, and characteristic fragment-dependent screening.

Three Citric Acid Ester, acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC; mean: 412,000 ng/g), tributyl citrate (TBC; 11,600 ng/g), and triethyl citrate (TEC; 10,900 ng/g), showed the highest contamination levels in n = 50 indoor dust samples collected from Nanjing City (China). The total concentrations of CAEs (8CAEs), a class of ubiquitous contaminants in dust, were statistically substantially (p 0.01) higher than those of typical organophosphate triesters (OPTEs). The same batch of samples also underwent suspect and typical fragment-dependent screening of CAEs (m/z 111.0078 [C5H3O3]+ and m/z 129.0181 [C5H5O4]+).
