In Organic Decomposition, Concentrated Nitric Acid (HNO3) Is Widely Used As A Digestion Reagent And As A Primary Oxidant
Concentrated Nitric Acid

Concentrated Nitric Acid has a strong, distinctive odour and is a very caustic, colourless, non-flammable liquid. It turns yellow when stored for a longer time. In water, it dissolves quickly and releases heat. It is an unstable substance that breaks down when exposed to heat and light, releasing nitrogen dioxide and oxide. Concentrated Nitric Acid reacts with a variety of metals when diluted, releasing hydrogen that is explosive and flammable. It is a potent oxidising agent and could set combustible items on fire. It is a chemically active compound, and the majority of its reactions happen quickly or even violently. The respiratory tract is severely inflamed by concentrated nitric acid vapours. When it comes into contact with skin, it chars the skin, causing necrosis and other serious changes.
