Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a well-defined histologic pattern of injury characterized by sclerosis, hyalinosis, foam-cell infiltration, podocyte vacuolization, and podocyte precursor proliferation between the glomeruli tuft and Bowman's capsule. It is Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis Market in the sense that only some glomeruli are affected, and "segmental" in the sense that only a portion of the affected glomerulus is sclerosed. It is characterized by proteinuria and obliteration or failure of glomerular capillary loops caused by increased extracellular matrix in glomeruli capillary tufts. However, the capillary injury does not cover the entire glomerulus.
