Endometriosis is a painful medical condition in which the tissue that lines the inner part of the uterus, known as the endometrium, grows outside the uterus. Endometriosis tissue can be found in the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and the pelvic lining. Endometrial tissue that has been displaced acts normally in endometriosis, thickening, breaking down, and eventually bleeding as it does in every menstrual cycle. Because the displaced tissue has no other way out of the body, it becomes trapped outside the uterus. Endometriosis Treatment causes cysts called endometriomas to form when the ovaries are involved. As a result, the surrounding tissues form an adhesion (abnormal bands of fibrous tissue that cause pelvic organs and tissues to stick together) or scar tissue near the ovaries.
