California Higher Education Overview

Three public institutions make up California's higher education system:

·         University of California (UC),

·         California State University (CSU),

·         and California Community Colleges;

There are also roughly 160 for-profit universities and more than 150 private non-profit colleges included in it. More than 30,000 students are enrolled in 170 private for-profit trade schools, which are postsecondary institutions that grant vocational certifications but do not grant degrees.

The California State University (CSU), which serves around 546,000 students across 23 departments, provides both undergraduate and graduate education largely via master's degree programmes, with a small number of doctoral degree programmes in educational leadership, physical therapy, and nursing practice. The upper quarter (33.3%) of public high school graduates and all qualified California Community College transfer students are eligible for admission to the CSU.

At 116 institutions divided into 73 districts, the California Community Colleges (CCC) offer courses to almost 2.2 million students. The California Community Colleges offer a wide range of educational and employment opportunities, such as the opportunity to earn an associate degree, complete a training or certificate programme, prepare for transfer to a four-year university, pursue adult education, and take community service-related coursework.
