An Example Of Point-Of-Care Diagnostics Is The Testing Of Samples At The Point Of Care To Assist In A Rapid Diagnosis And Treatment Plan
Point-Of-Care Diagnostics

Point-Of-Care Diagnostics (POCD) offers the potential to bring the results of critical care tests such as rapid blood gas analysis (RBG) to the patient. Point-Of-Care Diagnostics can result in a quicker therapeutic intervention, fewer preanalytical mistakes, and better patient care when correctly introduced into the patient care process. To avoid the pitfalls of improper sample handling, test inaccuracy, training and ongoing competency assessment of nonlaboratorians, and justification of the additional costs of analyzers and test units or cartridges, POCT also calls for a higher level of supervision and quality management. The advantages of POCT also rely on the number of tests performed and how close the care area is to a clinical laboratory.
