A Ret 0.05% Gel (Tretinoin 0.05%)

ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM also known as retinoic acid belongs to the class of drugs known as retinoids (synthetic or man-made vitamin A). ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM is primarily used to treat acne (pimples), sun-damaged skin and leukaemia (blood cancer). Acne is a skin condition that is common and occurs when hair follicles are blocked with dead skin cells and oil. Leukaemia is a type of blood cancer caused due to the rise in the number of white blood cells (WBCs) in your body.

ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM is a form of vitamin A that loosen and unblock pores in the skin’s surface by reducing the oil secretion in the skin. This prevents the formation of pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM also reduces the excessive production of abnormal blood cells and stimulates the growth of normal, mature cells in blood and bone marrow. The oral form of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM is used in the treatment of leukaemia (a type of blood cancer).

ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM is available in both topical and oral dosage form. The oral form of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. A topical form of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM can be taken on the fingertip and applied on the clean and dry affected area. Avoid contact of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM with nose, mouth, eyes, ears or vagina. In case ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Some people may experience dry skin, peeling, redness, burning, itching or stinging sensation of the skin. Most of these side effects of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are known to be allergic to ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant, nursing mother or planning for pregnancy, it is advised to consult a doctor before using ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM. Avoid sun exposure while using ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM as it may make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and cause sunburn. Wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen lotion (SPF) while going out to protect your skin from sunburn. Do not apply ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM in large amounts than prescribed as it does not give quick or better results but causes peeling, marked redness or skin discomfort. Patient with a history of depression, eczema, history of skin cancer, and fish allergies should use ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM with caution.

Directions for Use

Topically: Wash your hands before and after applying ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM. Before using it, try to clean and dry the affected skin area. Applying ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM to wet skin may cause skin irritation, so try not to wash the treated area. Also do not apply other skin products for at least 1 hour after applying ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM. Wash the face with mild soap and pat the skin dry. Take a small pearl-sized amount of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM on the fingertip and apply on the clean and dry affected area once a day in the evening. Avoid contact of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM with nose, mouth, eyes, ears or vagina. In case ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Orally: If you are prescribed ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM in oral form, swallow the whole capsule with a glass of water. Take ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM with food to avoid stomach upset. Do not break, crush or chew it.

Side Effects of A Ret 0.05% Gel

Like all medicines, ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM can cause some side effects such as dry skin, peeling, redness, burning, itching or stinging sensation of the skin. Most of these side effects of ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Drug Warnings

If skin irritation, redness, burning or stinging sensation worsens at the site of application, stop using ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM and consult a doctor. If you are pregnant, planning for pregnancy or a nursing mother, it is advised to consult a doctor before using ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM. Avoid sun exposure, use a sunscreen lotion and wear protective clothing while going out in the sun as ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM may make the skin more sensitive to the sun. Do not apply ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM in large amounts than prescribed as it does not give quick or better results but causes peeling, marked redness or skin discomfort. Use ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM with caution when used together with medicated or abrasive soaps, cleansers, shampoos, astringents, products with high concentrations of alcohol, electrolysis, hair depilatories or waxes or topical medications as they may increase skin irritation. Use with an antibiotic (tetracycline) with ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM may cause increased risk of cranial hypertension (increased blood pressure in brain).

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interaction: ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM may interact with an anti-epileptic drug (pentobarbital, phenobarbital), antifungal (ketoconazole), heart-related medicines (diltiazem, verapamil), antibiotics (erythromycin, rifampicin, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides), drugs for stomach ulcers (cimetidine), immunosuppressant (ciclosporin), medicines to reduce bleeding (aprotinin, aminocaproic acid, tranexamic acid),  water pills (thiazides), antipsychotics (phenothiazines).

Drug-Food Interaction: In rare case, may increase the risk of Vitamin A toxicity if taken with cod liver oil or halibut fish oil.

Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have eczema (itchy, swelling of the skin) or any other skin condition, inform your doctor before taking ARET 0.05% GEL 15GM.
