Exfoliating your skin can help to remove dead, old skin cells and reveal healthy, new skin beneath. A good face exfoliator can be used on almost any part of your body, including your lips and feet.
While dead skin cells should be thrown away as new cells are formed, they can sometimes remain. This can cause your skin to look uneven, blotchy or dull.
We'll be taking a closer look at natural exfoliants that you can use to improve the appearance and health of your skin.
Make your own body scrubs
Body scrub with oatmeal
The skin-soothing betaglucan compound found in oatmeal makes this oatmeal body scrub softening.
After your skin has been softened by warm water, this scrub can be used in the bath or shower.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of old-fashioned oatmeal (this type is less processed than the oatmeal in packets).
- 1/2 cup coconut oil, jojoba oil
- 1/2 cup grapeseed oil
- 1 tbsp. 1 tbsp. brown sugar
- 2 chamomile tea bags
Directions
- Blend the oats until they are a fine powder-like consistency. Then, pour the mixture into a bowl.
- Mix the remaining ingredients with the ground oatmeal, then mix it all together until well combined.
- Use gentle circular motions to scrub your body. Avoid your face.
- After you have finished using the scrub, rinse it with warm water.
- Before applying any moisturizing oil or lotion to your skin, towel dry or air dry it.
Sea salt scrub
You can make this sea salt scrub spa-like by adding essential oils.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sea salt
- 1/2 cup coconut, olive or jojoba oils
- Three drops of any essential oil ( lavender or rose oil , chamomile or Geranium oil might work well)
Directions
- Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
- Use gentle circular movements to scrub your body while you are in the bath or shower. Be sure to not use the scrub on your face.
- Rinse thoroughly. Apply a body lotion or oil once your body has dried.
The bottom line
Exfoliation is a great way to keep your skin healthy and radiant by getting rid of any dead skin cells.
Granules can be used to remove flaky or dead skin from the body, face, and lips. You can make DIY scrubs with oils and honey.
Avoid over-exfoliating your skin. For your lips, you only need to exfoliate your lips once or twice per week.
