This guide, which you're about to come up with, will show you that once you know what to do, it doesn't have to be difficult!

How to Draw The American Flag
Step 1
For this first step of our guide on how to draw the American flag, you will need a ruler, which will make your life easier!
Once your ruler is ready, this next step should be easy for you. All you have to do is draw a straight horizontal line forming the top of the flag. That's all there is to this step, so it's step 2!
Step 2
I hope you still have your ruler handy, as you will need it for this next step of your American flag design.
To complete the outline of the flag, draw the remaining three sides, as shown in the reference image. It would help if you got a perfect rectangle.
You can use a tool like a set square to help you draw to get the angles right.
Step 3
The stars of the fifty states are an iconic feature of the flag, and we will draw the rectangle that contains them for this step of our guide to drawing an American flag.
To do this, use your ruler to draw a rectangle in the top left corner of the flag, as shown in our reference image.
Step 4
This next step in your American flag drawing might look deceptively easy on the surface since you'll only be drawing a few lines, but it can be more complicated!
This is because if you want the flag to be accurate, you need to make sure the flag has thirteen stripes.
If you keep the strips evenly spaced, it's easy to end up not running out of space or having too much room!
You can avoid this problem in two ways. For the former, you can draw the lines with a pencil and then use the pen when you get the right spacing.
Alternatively, you can omit the bottom of the flag and only draw when the stripes are correct. However you do it, you'll soon be ready for the finishing touches!
Step 5
Before adding the classic American flag colours to your drawing, we have another important step to drawing the American flag in this guide.
The flag is also sometimes called Stars and Stripes, and since you've already drawn the stripes, it's time to add the stars!
We've already mentioned that fifty stars on the flag represent the fifty states, so that we will draw them in this step.
There's a little pattern to follow here, as you can draw a line of five stars vertically and then follow it with four consecutive stars.
Continue this pattern until you have all fifty stars! This step may take patience as you draw each star, but it will be worth it!
Just like with the stripes you drew earlier, you can use a pencil at first until you get the spacing of the stars just right. You could then go over that pencil with a pen to finish it off.
Before moving on to the last step, draw any details you want! Some ideas include a background image to show what day the background is.
Step 6
Now that your flag is drawn, there's one more step to complete your American flag design!
The flag is known for its red, white, and blue colour scheme, so we used our reference image.
For an extra punch in our design, we also coloured the stars light yellow. You can even leave them white if you prefer!
Then you can use your favourite shades of blue and red for the rest of the flag. For the stripes, alternate between red and white; you should end up with red as the colour for the first and last stripes.
When colourizing an image with smaller details like this one, it can be helpful to use artistic mediums that allow for precision to make your life easier.
Some examples of media you can use are coloured pencils, markers, or crayons. If you wish to use colour, we recommend using a fine-tipped paintbrush whenever possible.
