Peninsula Announces Global Sustainability Initiative - Establishes Lng Bunkering Business

Peninsula’s CEO,John A. Bassadone explained, “IMO2020 was a complex strategic planning process and we delivered the transition extremelyeffectively. Our foresight andprofessionalism throughout thatperiod led to Peninsula deepening relationships with clients and stakeholders;cementing our position as thebenchmark for quality within the industry. Beingable to adapt and evolve to the changingmarket is a core value of the company.” ForPeninsula, the initial phase of our Global SustainabilityInitiative, was to build an LNG supply proposition. In so doing the group is able to positively shape the ever-changing ‘green energy’ landscape.

Peninsula’senergy transition strategy is the culmination of a wide-ranging consultationprocess spanning over 18 months.With an integrated supply networkalready spanning the globe, the

group’s strategywas to add LNG bunker as an additional service. This took considerable planningand acquisition of new skills. Buildinginternal expertise and mapping the supply environment now ensures that relevant LNG solutions can beprovided to Peninsula’s customers. Onthe topic of customers, Peninsulafeels that its existing worldwide relationships have proved vital in securing importantknowledge and a clear pictureof current and future demand.

“We are alreadyin dialogue with multiple customers regarding their LNG strategies” statedVictor Morales, Peninsula’s GlobalHead of Sales & Marketing. “Weare fortunate to have deep relationshipswith many customers, either already operating LNG-powered vessels, or in thefinal stages of delivering new shipsfor service. Building our LNGproposition around customer needs is a naturalprogression for us, Morales added, as it is a methodology we have followed inconventional bunkering for 25years. In many cases, customers areopting for dual-fuelled ships and we will beuniquely placed to assist them with all their bunkering needs”

Peninsula is anaturally risk-averse company and when it came to the operational challenges ofBunkerSupply their planninghas been wholly focused onreplicating its reputation as a safe, quality operator by all stakeholders and inensuring that it is ready to meet the transition challenges. Nachode Miguel was an early recruit adding significant pedigree to thisprocess. Having commenced his career in Cepsa’s bunker business, wherehe counted Peninsula as a customer, he progressed into LNG-focused senior positionswith Union Fenosa.
