How do you measure a compression spring?
important part of said design has to do with the correct measurement of the compression spring. Next we will mention what are the data that must be taken into account to make a correct measurement.

Compression springs or springs are those that are used in mechanisms that require a push or compression force. Some examples of their application are in suspensions, valves, pens or axles. These springs can be designed according to the configuration you require for your use.

An important part of said design has to do with the correct measurement of the compression spring. Next we will mention what are the data that must be taken into account to make a correct measurement.

To measure compression springs, the following characteristics must be known: wire diameter, spring length, outer diameter, and number of turns. It is also important to consider the type of end that the pier will have, since this will also impact the dimension of the pier.

End types for compression springs

Among the types of ends that can be chosen for a compression spring are the following:

-Closed and rectified:  in these springs the last spiral is closed and rectified in such a way that it will touch the previous spiral. This type of lock is ideal for those springs that will be used vertically since the spring will be level with the base of the spring and there will be no problems because it moves.

-Closed and square:  in this case the last spiral is only closed and touches the previous spiral, its ends remain square and closed. It is the most common type of closed and it also works for vertical springs, however, if you want the spring to be able to stand perfectly straight vertically, it is advisable to opt for the closed and rectified one.

-Both ends closed:  in this case both spirals at the ends of the spring will be closed, with this technique the spring will be given stability both in its lower and upper parts. Keeping the ends closed gives greater firmness in the compression of the spring on both sides.

-Open:  it is also possible to choose to leave the ends open and keep the space between the spirals. This type of termination will give the spring greater strength. However, having both ends open requires that it be placed on an axis so that it can work correctly.

At Vanel Tech we can help you manufacture compression springs tailored to your requirements, as well as give you the end that best suits the use that will be given to it.

If you need to manufacture a special spring, call us, we will help you with the design and production, always using the highest quality materials.

Main materials in the manufacture of springs

The springs are made of different materials according to the requirements of the model to guarantee their correct operation. Although most are made of metal with round wire, there are different categories.

Below we will present which are the main materials in the manufacture of springs and which are the cases in which each one of them is used.

The most used materials for the manufacture of springs are:

-High carbon spring wire

This is the most common material in the manufacture of springs, mainly because it is very cheap. There are different types of this wire, some have a higher tensile strength than others, and each one also has defined hardness levels for use.

Springs made with this material cannot be exposed to temperatures higher than 121°C or be in corrosive or humid environments as they are not manufactured to perform well under these conditions.

It is recommended to use steel with a high carbon content because it is an accessible material and easy to work, as long as it is not used in extreme temperatures or its function is for shock or impact loads.

-Alloy steel wire

This material is usually used in large springs since its characteristics adapt well to large cable diameters. They are characterized by having a harder consistency and better resistance to traction activities. However, it is a material that does not resist corrosive environments or temperatures higher than 218°C. It is ideal for use in high stress conditions or in applications where there is an impact or shock.

-Stainless steel wire

The main difference with the rest of the materials is that this one is resistant to corrosion. They are also characterized by having a different elasticity and hardness. If you want the spring to withstand high temperatures, this is the indicated material.

There are also special materials for making unique springs, for example, high-temperature or ferrous alloy wire. If you require the manufacture of a special spring, at Vanel Tech we help you design the spring according to your needs and we use the material that best suits the use that will be given to it to guarantee its proper functioning.
