A Very Superior Technology In The World Of Display – TFT LCD Panels
In short, it is TFT LCD Panel, but its full form denotes a thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display panel.

In short, it is TFT LCD Panel, but its full form denotes a thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display panel. It is one of the modifications, in fact, it can be said an innovation of the LCD. It is because it uses thin-film transistor technology. This technology enhances the quality of the picture by taking into consideration addressability and contrast.

Uses Of TFT LCD Panel

An active matrix LCD, the TFT LCD Panel is used in computer monitors, television sets, handheld devices, mobile phones, personal digital assistants, video game systems, dashboards in automobiles, navigation systems and projectors.

How Is The TFT LCD Panel Constructed

Calculators and other devices have elements with direct-driven images, so naturally, the voltage can be applied very easily across just simply one segment of the displays but without interfering with the other segments. This is possible in a small device like a calculator but not in a large device like a television set or any device with a large display.

It is impossible because of the presence of large numbers of colour pixels which need millions of connections both from the top and the bottom for each of the three colours – red, blue and green. To steer clear of this, the pixels are placed in rows and columns thereby reducing the count of connections from millions to just thousands.

The wires of the columns and rows are attached to transistor switches, one switch for one pixel. The transistor has a one-way current passing characteristic. This prevents the charge being applied to each pixel from being drained in between being refreshed to an image display. Each of these pixels is a capacitor that has a layer of liquid crystal that is insulated. It is shoehorned between conductive ITO layers.

The semi-conductor products have a circuit layout process very similar to that of a TFT LCD Panel. The transistors instead of being made from silicon that is formed into crystalline silicon wafers are made from a slim film of amorphous silicon deposited on a glass panel. It is deposited using the PECVD process. As transistors take a very small space in the area of the pixel, the rest of the space is left for the light to easily pass through.

Where displays require higher TFT performance levels, polycrystalline silicon is used. A few examples are high-resolution displays in viewfinders or projectors. They are used because of their cost-effectiveness and easiness of production.

The Various Types Of TFT LCD Panels

There are many types of TFT LCD Panels. They are namely:

• Twisted Nematic – it is the oldest of all the technologies and the most commonly used also. Colour reproduction is low with a poor viewing angle.

• In-plane Switching – It is an improvisation of the twisted nematic pattern. Here the light is scattered less in the matrix that gives a wide viewing angle and superior colour production.

• Advanced Fringe Field Switching – In this technology the colour shift and deviation due to light leakage are checked by optimizing the white gamut.

• Multi-domain Vertical Alignment – It has wide viewing angles and high contrast sacrificing its brightness and colour reproduction. It also offers a good depth in the black colour.

• Patterned Vertical Alignment – This technology uses FRC and dithering.

• Advanced Super View – In this technology, the liquid crystal molecules are perpendicularly oriented to the substrate in the off-state. When the field is on, the liquid crystal molecules tilt towards the centre.

• Plane Line Switching – It gives good image quality and improved viewing angles. Thereby it increases brightness and production costs at the same time.

• TFT Dual-transistor Pixel or Cell Technology – This technology is suitable for uses in devices that consume very little power like digital watches, shelf labels and meters.

Safety Of TFT LCD Panels

The safety of LCD crystals has continuously been subjected to testing for any hazardous materials in them. The conclusions for the tests are:

•  Although a very valuable development in the world of displays and television, yet the wastewater released from it, is not deemed safe for aquatic life.

•  Its bad effects can be taken care of by using a minimum concentration in mixtures.

•  They are not mutagenic.

•  They are not carcinogenic in nature.

•  They do not have the potential for bioaccumulation.

•  They are not biodegradable either.

Conclusion

The very useful TFT LCD Panels are found with many TFT LCD Panel Suppliers all over India including Pune. It is very popular and so is easily available everywhere.
