4 Important Factors to Consider for Choosing Right Bicycle Tyres
The best tyre manufacturers in the world know very well how important a component is the tyre to a bicycle, hence they engineer these tyres with utmost care.

Whether you are a cycling enthusiast or just a regular cyclist, you should have a bicycle that suits your needs and preferences. The most important component of a bicycle is tyre. The pair of tires your cycle has determines the quality of your ride to a great degree. Therefore, you should select your bicycle tires carefully.

To select the right pair of tyres for your bicycle, you should not rely on your whims and fancies; rather you should make an informed choice by taking into consideration certain important things. We are listing here four important factors that you should consider for choosing the right bicycle tyres:

Size – dimension & width

The size of a bicycle tire has two important aspects, namely: dimension and width. Dimension is basically the diameter of the tire. If you’re riding a BMX bicycle, then a 20-inch tire would suffice. But, in case of a mountain bike or MTR bicycle, the recommended tire dimension is 26 to 29 inches, depending upon the height of the biker. You may locate the tire size printed on the side walls of a cycle tire.

Tread or Surface

Tread is another important aspect of a cycle tire that you should pay attention to. Tread is basically the raised rubber pattern on the surface of a tire that makes contact with the ground and also provides grip. The choice of tread is dependent upon the type of terrain you want to ride on. That is to say, for cycling in the city or for racing tracks, smooth tires or the tires with a slight tread pattern are good as they provide good speed (due to minimal resistance), along with the required grip on road. However, for cycling in mountainous regions and other off-road regions (such as muddy or wet grounds), a pair of sturdy knobby tires would be appropriate as they could easily withstand rough surfaces and provide strong grip on slippery ground.

Durability

This is a very important factor, which is directly related to ride safety and longevity of your bicycle tyres. If most of your cycling is on smooth city roads and pavements, then normal cycle tyres from a good brand would work well for you. But, if you have to frequently ride over rough surfaces where there could be glass, nails and junk, then it would be better to spend a few bucks extra to get a pair of tough puncture-resistant tyres for your bicycle.

Weight

This factor is particularly important for those who participate in a high-level bicycle racing championship because there the weight of your cycle could affect your performance. If you have little lighter tyres in such racing, you could be a fraction of seconds faster, which is enough to provide you a lead in such a championship. For the regular bikers, weight is not a significant consideration because it is not going to affect your riding experience. Anyway, the standard tyres for a bicycle are more or less the same weight.

If you keep in mind the above factors while selecting your bicycle tyres, you will surely be able to make the right choice. The best tyre manufacturers in the world know very well how important a component is the tyre to a bicycle, hence they engineer these tyres with utmost care.
