In Patients, Memantine Can Improve Cognitive Function And Reduce Behavioural Symptoms
Memantine works by regulating the activity of glutamate, a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role

Memantine works by regulating the activity of glutamate, a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in learning and memory. In Alzheimer's disease, excessive glutamate can overstimulate NMDA receptors, leading to neuronal damage and death. Memantine blocks the NMDA receptor by binding to a different site than glutamate, thus preventing the excessive activation of the receptor. This helps to reduce the damage caused by excessive glutamate and protect the brain from further damage.

Clinical trials have shown that Memantine can improve cognitive function and reduce behavioral symptoms in patients with Alzheimer's disease. In one study, patients who received memantine showed significant improvements in memory, attention, and language compared to those who received a placebo. Another study found that memantine reduced the severity of behavioral symptoms such as aggression, agitation, and delusions.
