Buying a Dog - Signs of a Good Dog Breeder
Getting a dog is a long-term commitment (or should be) and it demands a thoughtful approach. A dog breeder is someone who shows you where the dogs spend their time and whether it is well-maintained and clean or not. Rather than being locked outside in kennel runs the dogs are kept in the home as part of the family and are they fed high quality pet food. Through a pet store or in any other way they never sell dogs that doesn't allow interaction between the buyer and the puppy to ensure that they are a good match.
The dogs appear to be inquisitive, happy and healthy. By seeing new people, they become excited and never shy away from visitors. With a veterinarian the breeder has a good relationship and has records of veterinary visits and vaccinations for the puppies. They also give you with a written contract and guarantee regarding the health that does not need you use a specific veterinarian.
The dog breeder Poodle’s toy keeps a waiting list for interested people and doesn't always have puppies available. They even give you references from others who have already purchased puppies from them. To spend some time with the puppy's mother and, if possible, the father too you are always encouraged. About training and caring for the puppy they always offer guidance and will always be available for questions later.
One or two different breeds of dogs are bred by the breeder and is familiar with the standards for those particular breeds (such as desired size, color, coat, proportion and temperament). The breeder needs to have documentation that the puppy's parents and grandparents have been tested and are free from such defects. They have to be involved with dog clubs that specialize in the specific breed.
A good dog breeder will explain about the requirements of why you want to own a dog, how training will be provided, who will be responsible for the puppy's daily care and where she will be kept. From a landlord or condo board they may need a veterinary reference and proof that you are allowed a dog. To spay or neuter the dog (unless it is a show dog) you may be required to sign an agreement and to return the dog if you become unable to keep the dog.
