When plug is tapered conically, handle or stem is typically attached to the bigger diameter end of plug. In such type of conditions, there is generally not much of stem. Handle and stem oftentimes come in one piece.
The simple and most common types of plug valves are 2-port valves with two positions. First is open to allow flow, and second is shut to stop flow. Ports open in the body of valve through which liquid can leave or enter. This kind of valve has only one passageway going through it. The ports are positioned at opposite ends of the valve body.
