Taking a Closer Look at Uses of Fume Hood in Laboratory Environment
Kewaunee is the leading fume hood manufacturer in India and worldwide. We design and manufacture many types of fume hood for our clients in various industries.

Laboratories have different working environments, and they perform different functions. However the fact is that all laboratories require the basic laboratory apparatus and state-of-the-art lab apparatus to perform complicated lab experiments.

Besides various laboratory equipment, there is air handling equipment that is required to protect the laboratory and specimen from air-borne contamination, and these include fume hoods, environmentally controlled rooms, and biological safety cabinets. A fume hood works to contain and exhaust fumes, mists, vapors, and fine particles. Mainly to protect the lab technicians from toxic fumes chemicals and other potentially hazardous gases, the fume hood or enclosure is installed to minimize exposure.

Fume hood manufacturers in India ensure these appliances are created to shield workers from toxic fumes and protect the specimen. Most of the labs are outfitted with laboratory fume hoods, as it is mandatory lab safety equipment installed in labs that deal with chemical and toxic research and similar applications.

To keep toxic fumes out of the lab’s working area and to protect the worker and specimens from these fumes, fume hoods are installed in the labs. The equipment partially encloses workspaces that are ventilated and does the job of exhausting fumes outside of the lab area. Though it might take up a small space in a lab, it has large usability allowing the technicians enough space to do experiments.

When you are buying a fume hood, it is necessary to measure its efficiency by the speed of the airflow that crosses between the work surface and the sash. Most often, laboratory fume hood prevents exposure to vapors and toxins and there are different hoods designed to work at different velocities for various chemical and technological applications.

In addition to regular hoods, there are other special fume hoods for laboratories namely - radioisotope hood systems and perchloric acid systems. The radioisotope fume hood type is produced from stainless steel that prevents the absorption of radioactive elements. While Perchloric acid fumes hoods prevent the build-up of volatile perchlorate salts along the exhaust systems.

When installing fume hoods, they must give high filtration performance and have replacement parts and technical support for installation and maintenance to be regularly monitored for efficiency.
